FOTD #7: In-depth Description & Tips

Today's post is a tutorial on the make up I wore. I wish I could say I was going somewhere special but unfortunately, after finishing my exams it's back to work for me! Anyways, here's a detailed post of how to create this look with a few interesting (I hope) tips along the way. It's pretty long but I really wanted  to include everything.

Skin Prep:
♡ I begin by moisturising with Simple's Kind to Skin Hydrating Light Moisturiser. I apply 2-3 layers on the drier areas of my skin.

 ♡ While I'm waiting for this to dry, I neaten my brows by plucking any stray hairs using my Benefit tweezers (highly recommend it!)

♡ When the moisturiser dries I apply some of Benefit's POREfessional (review here)

♡ I let this settle for 5 minutes and apply Rose&Almond Oil Vaseline to my lips in the meantime. This is to prevent foundation getting on to my lips and to keep them hydrated before applying any lipstick.

Face Makeup:

♡ I squirt Mac Pro Longwear (NC15) onto the back of my hand to heat up the product. Using the stipling foundation brush from my Inglot set (post here), I buff the product into my skin. I begin with a thin layer, adding more after the concealer only if necessary.

♡ I breathe on my ring finger and swirl it around my Catrice Camouflage Cream pot (010 Ivory). This heats up the product so that it will adhere perfectly to the skin on my face, blending beautifully. I pat it on any red areas.

♡ I apply an Une Beauty undereye concealer to any purple hues on the inner part of my undereye area. This product is made from 99.2% natural ingredients! I swipe a bit on my hand to warm it, and using an Inglot concealer brush (post here) I apply it in a quick,patting movement, barely lifting the brush from my skin.

♡ Using an FCUK kabuki brush, I buff Collection Pressed Powder (18 Ivory) to my T-zone and anywhere where there is concealer. You can use a small blending/fan brush to lightly apply it on your undereye concealer if you wish.

♡ Using Benefit's Benetint (review here), I paint a stripe onto my cheek and quickly pat and blend it using my middle finger, a process which I repeat on my other cheek. I love the natural glow that comes from this product but unfortunately if you have any spots/red patches on your cheeks I feel it settles on these areas and highlights them.

After these steps, I look something like this:

Eyes:

♡I apply "Half Baked" in the crease of my eyes, blending it into the inner corners of my eyes.

♡ I pat "Verve" all over my eyelid (love this shade!)

♡ "Chopper" is patted into the inner 2/3rds of my crease.

♡ Using the same brush, I pat "Suspect" into the outer 2/3rds of my crease and eyelid. I use the blending end of the Urban Decay brush to blend "Suspect" outwardly.

♡ Using a more detailed brush, I draw a winged cut-crease line in "Snakebite" in my outer crease.

♡ I blend this using "Suspect". I then reapply "Chopper" to the inner crease and pat "Verve" on the eyelids close to the lashline.

♡ With an angled brush from my Inglot set, I apply blackout  to my lashline. I also create wings with connect to the edge of my eyeshadow.

♡ I brush a healthy dose of Benefit's They're Real (review here) mascara to my lasheroos, pushing the brush as close to my lashline as poss! If you want to apply mascara to your lower lashline, wait for the top application to dry first. This prevents smudging.

♡ The highlighter I use is a shimmery pink from Benefit's Smokin' Eyes set.

♡ Copying a technique Marilyn Monroe's makeup artist, Whitey, used, I draw an outward line on the outer corner of my lower lashline (like an upside down eyeliner wing). I draw this in brown using an Essence brow pencil (02 Brown- post here). This creates the illusion of a shadow, like your eyes are being weighed down by your lashes. You can apply white shadow between both your wings to enhance this effect.

♡ I fill in and brush my brows using Maybelline's brow pencil in Taupe

Lips:

♡ I line my lips with an Essence lipliner (07 Cute Pink).

♡ With an Inglot lip brush (post here), I apply a berry shade of lip creme from a lip palette of theirs. Unfortunately it has no name but you can see from the pic below!
