We're nearing that time of year again, VDAY!
We all know the traditional looks, red lipstick to play up on the colour attributed to the commercial event. The problem with that? Well, it's Valentines day, supposedly the most romantic day of the year. Chances are, you'll get a smooch and if you have red lipstick on, you can quite literally kiss goodbye to it (pun was 100% intended). So I have put together this post of quirky alternatives to the classic red lip. These looks aren't for everyone, but the eye and lip looks can be mixed and matched to suit your style. I used "They're Real" mascara by Benefit for a false lash effect without the false lashes!
Look One
90's lips are hawt hawt hawt for SS14. What was once a ohmygod-how-could-we-go-out-like-that fashion faux pas, is now a cosmetic comeback that suits everybody. The key to this look is choosing a nude lipstick that has pink undertones, so that it blends beautifully with your pink based lip liner.
Lips:
Apply your pink based nude lipstick all over your lips. Mine was just a cheapie that I had lying around but if you're looking for one, Maybelline have a nude lipstick range. Truffle Tease and Bare All would be perfect. Outline your lips with a darker liner. I used Essence 07 Cute Pink, which is an unusual name for it as it is slightly berry toned. When you have outlined your lips, it will look very harsh. This is when you rub your lips together, to blend the liner into your lipstick. You'll end up with something like this:
Eyes:
This is a lot easier than it looks, trust me. I've been loving playing with different eyeliner patterns lately and this is one of them. To begin, using liquid eyeliner, line your top lid as close to your lashes as possible. Then, draw an upward and outward line, as if you're about to do a wing. Try to keep the line thing. Then starting from the outer corner of your eye, draw a thin, downward line. In the space in between these two lines, simply dot on eyeliner with the tip of your liner brush. I like to extend the dots further than my lines. And this is how it looks!
Altogether:
Look Two
This is a look that I think will go down well with most. Bronzey-gold and brown tones on the eyes are always a winner, with an oxblood lip making it on trend.
Lips:
I used an Inglot lip paint as they are long lasting and don't smudge easily! Mine is from their five shades Freedom System palette, which I highly recommend and use all the time! Below is the lip paint I used.
Eyes:
This eye look was created using a Coastal Scents palette and Urban Decay's Naked 2. On the inner corner of my eyes I used a golden-bronze tone(clink the link above for swatch) from Coastal Scents and Half Baked from UD Naked 2. In my crease, I blended a shimmery brown from Coastal Scents (click the link above for swatch). I then applied Suspect in the outer corners of my eye, blending it into the crease. I used the same eyeliner technique explained in the Look One, but you can choose not to do this if you feel it is too much.
Altogether:
Look Three
Again, I've gone with the 90's lip (lurve it). This time, the eyeliner look is completely playing up to the Valentine's day heart symbol
Eyes:
Like the last eyeliner look, create an upward and outward line, and a downward line. This time, make just one dot in between the lines. The with two curves lines, connect the lines to the dot in the shape of a heart. This is actually a lot easier than it sounds. Just don't overthink it or feel nervous. No matter how much you mess it up, it can always be cleaned off which is the joy of makeup!
Extra
A lot of eyeliner styles were featured in this post but if you would like to have eyeshadow too, here is the look I recommend. This look is created using the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette.
Eyes:
Pat Verve into the inner corners of your eyes and blend it out along the lid. Then blend YDK from the outer corners of your eye into Verve on the lid. Using a fluffy brush, blend Tease into the crease and outer corners of your eye. Complete with an eyeliner style of your choice.
I hope this post has been inspirational to any of you girlies who bagged a lad for the 14th!
If you like any of the looks and decided to try them, please send me a link of your interpretation, I'd love to see!
As always, don't forget to follow! ♡

ReplyDeleteAnyways, to answer your question for the navbar, I just looked up "floating navbar" and clicked on one I liked best. The steps are very straightforward! I tweaked it a bit here and there by searching multliple questions on google (took me FOREVER) to get it white and change the font and add my own social media icons. The way you placed your own icons is essentially the same in the code. I did it a while ago and I'm not a coder so I'm really rusty with all of it :/ Sorry if this isn't much of a help!
I'd love to know how it goes! Best of luck and can't wait to see more of your posts!
