You can easily make any eyeshadow colour work on your eyes if you first apply a taupe-y brown in your crease, right under your brow bone. This adds definition to your eye shape and is something that I do daily, regardless of the look I am going for.
Hint: I sometimes use my bronzer to do this, as it means that all the contoured areas in my face are created using the same shade i.e. the contour under my cheekbone and along my nose matches the one in my eye crease.
After you create this contour on your eye, pat any colour eyeshadow in the outer corners of the eye, under the taupe-y brown shade, and blend into the crease with a fluffy brush. In this photo, I have applied this method using a shimmery red shadow. For extra oomph, I blended a matte purple into the crease too! I added bright pink lips to avoid looking too grunge-y, but feel free to take the grunge route if that's your style!
